My quest to make nursing friendly clothes and work out a new style and my new shape, led me to vouge 9067. I was drawn to the boxy white top, because it was feminine and has ruffles with out being twee.</div>

I cut out a size xs based on the finished garment measurements, make sure you check these before cutting because the body measurements had me as and M which would have swamped me.</div>

<br />
1, Being a mum requires me to whip out my boobs far more frequently than ever before, so I have had to shelf a lot of my dress patterns in favour of separates ( I have made some nursing dresses that I might one day post?!).<br />
<br />
2, my body isn't the same shape anymore so I am looking into new shapes.<br />
<br />
One of the great things about the blog/Instagram sewing world is the mass of knowledge and experience. Before embarking on a new pattern I will search insta and the blogs to see how others have gotten on with it. Dose is run large, is there a fiddly bit, will it work in the fabric I want to use etc.<br />
<br />
I want to contribute to that pool of info with my experiences so I am hoping (no promises or time tables with a baby in the mix) to blog my foray into feeding friendly clothing!<br />
<br />
First up is the <a href="http://shop.grainlinestudio.com/products/moss-skirt" target="_blank">moss mini</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I wanted a nice basic that I can pair with nursing friendly tops, so I went for a light denim in medium weight.<br />
<br />
I cut a size 8 based on the hip measurements in the instructions and it fits well, I wanted it to sit a little higher to come up over my new wobbly bits.<br />
<br />
I added 3 inches to the length to compensate for wearing it higher and I am glad I did.<br />
<br />
I decided to double top stich the yoke, front, back and pockets in a contrast thread.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I wasn't sure how to proceed with the hem so I left it raw and now I like it!<br />
<br />
The instructions are great, even the fly wasn't too tough. The pattern is well designed and came together well. I had to fight with the waist band to make it fit but it got there in the end!<br />
<br />
Great staple!<br />
<br />Chrinnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05033467030030218480noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-989755750666656835.post-85385981795717553772016-03-04T23:44:00.001-08:002016-03-05T15:08:27.681-08:00What could be better than a frock and cocktail?Frocktails that's what! For those of you who haven't encountered a 'Frocktails' before it is when a bunch of sewist get together for cocktails (generally) wearing a frock that they have sewn.<br />
<br />
I was lucky enough to get along to the Melbourne Frocktails in January.<br />
<br />
I was a little nervous as I hadn't met any of the sewist before, I Instagram-knew a few of them but hadn't ever talked to them eek. But I needn't have worried, everyone was super friendly and made a real effort to include the out-of-towners.<br />
<br />
The hubby and I decided to make a weekend of it and drove down to Melbourne on Friday morning. We had a fantastic afternoon and evening wandering around the city, we had Mexican from <a href="http://www.fondamexican.com.au/" target="_blank">Fonda </a>for dinner and it was delicious!<br />
<br />
Saturday I joined a few sewist headed up by the wonderful Anna (from<a href="http://www.bloglessanna.com/" target="_blank"> Blogless Anna)</a> for some fabric shopping around Melbs, We hit a few shops I had been to before and a few I hadn't. It was great to get to know some of the lovely ladies and to buy fabrics from somewhere other than Spotlight!<br />
<br />
I was too excited to take any photos but here is one I stole from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/bloglessanna/" target="_blank">Anna's Instagram</a>, ekk.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.instagram.com/bloglessanna/" target="_blank"><img alt="https://www.instagram.com/bloglessanna/" border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRhZaS1nhd1t24v_WdYOH_b0tSXqLdMHa7XJ7685QO-ck6ij2O8WwQgL5e2aU6LtAEbMuDvziQ_HBJI4yyYQ8M7yciLMo69x-b54P0xYnDJKWFgOjWl9OUEXBJQp4zGP44hFDwTWQv9n0h/s400/Screenshot_2016-01-17-13-53-55.png" width="312" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here is a quick snap of my spoils, I only went $5 over budget, not to shabby considering all the temptations!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_7hi3hXyIjQGoqJZGfRhhTiz7FMjPD56Z8lIIJVVze3aTkz7gAy_V7dVcr5acsm3hFOXj6I_Gdqs_TiQgCEicSzjapXj-W-K-DlX2CgOmMaSAtEOm_y_IzMppOBckR-fdmK1NeA_FJVS-/s1600/IMG_20160118_115209.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_7hi3hXyIjQGoqJZGfRhhTiz7FMjPD56Z8lIIJVVze3aTkz7gAy_V7dVcr5acsm3hFOXj6I_Gdqs_TiQgCEicSzjapXj-W-K-DlX2CgOmMaSAtEOm_y_IzMppOBckR-fdmK1NeA_FJVS-/s400/IMG_20160118_115209.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
But now to the main event. 2016 Melbourne Frocktails was held at Collins Quarter, we packed out our area with beautiful ladies in magnificent frocks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And here is the whole lot of us, I was so inspired by all the sewing talent that I sewed pretty much constantly for the rest of Jan! PS how great are these <a href="http://www.louisajones.com.au/" target="_blank">photos taken by Louisa</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Now to my frock, yay! I was wanted to make something sparkly and glam. I was inspired by this Channel dress.<br />

I couldn't find any suitably embellished fabric so I had to do the beading by hand.<br />

I made up the dress using my T&T shift dress pattern New look 6983 - for the top part in a silk dupioni. I just made up the bottom kind of draping as I went and it is some kind of chiffon.<br />

The beading was a bit of a labor of love, I did it in 15 minute increments throughout December. It was a great project to have on the go when I was super busy with all the Christmas madness. I just did a little bit each day. I think all-in-all the beading took me 7 hours.<br />

<br />
I hope you have had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year; I had a wonderful time, seeing friends, hanging out with my husband and sewing: specifically, sewing pants.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0Re6aD8Ho1zNan4UFFo70xYWszuYiV8eTvyfbDAYj0o8D31CTZEbXESuEraQxILyK2FjI22AHzAGOeQZgF82-t4BP1Vy08ryN-V2s6RpvwMDqOKUJcCqPkc90VEKNcSNKRukwLOLI6HcE/s1600/wny76.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Simplicity 1430" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0Re6aD8Ho1zNan4UFFo70xYWszuYiV8eTvyfbDAYj0o8D31CTZEbXESuEraQxILyK2FjI22AHzAGOeQZgF82-t4BP1Vy08ryN-V2s6RpvwMDqOKUJcCqPkc90VEKNcSNKRukwLOLI6HcE/s1600/wny76.gif" title="Burda 7250" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I bought some beautiful black and white linen when I was in Auckland last Christmas (of the 2014 variety). It had been sitting in my stash making eyes at me for 12 months before I realized it wanted to be made in to trousers.<br />
<br />
Naturally I couldn't cut straight in to my beloved linen without road-testing the pattern first.<br />
<br />
I had picked up Burda 7250 a few months ago in a Spotlight sale and thought it would be good for a light-weight summer pant.<br />
<br />
- pants/trousers seems to be one of the words that my poor addled English brain can't settle on. Here in Australia they are pants, but back home pants are underwear and we call the long things that cover your legs trousers so now I oscillate between the two!?<br />
<br />
I tested the pattern in a light-weight cotton stripe that I picked up from an op-shop for about a dollar.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaE79AMvX8ia8k3_-z4N2kHuhU1o8lfH8_7y9DOfFGy54Bh1n5XiXGm2Tw5Xg8EGwMTwh5c5zRd0bfrmqnwAd_V8i8wITYHFxhM6gW8bqFpFFtPWVq16I2DUa_ch9nCeMkWvOSV5mrb8lt/s1600/great+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaE79AMvX8ia8k3_-z4N2kHuhU1o8lfH8_7y9DOfFGy54Bh1n5XiXGm2Tw5Xg8EGwMTwh5c5zRd0bfrmqnwAd_V8i8wITYHFxhM6gW8bqFpFFtPWVq16I2DUa_ch9nCeMkWvOSV5mrb8lt/s400/great+front.jpg" title="Burda 7250" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I cut out a size 14 based on the finished garment measurements printed on the tissue paper, but they were too big and keep slipping off of my hips, 1 1/4 inches taken mostly from the back seam sorted me out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3HmO5J6As-4ELRgmNeG-YnModa09JBW94UVTJ6PtMmrQRtxklefvCPFSL4Fc7awUyNlsYj-8VoZIhlOT7NGs7NCsSbxCeJag-Br5O88UtnU6oTHtPniGX5OEkHxP7NwXJFPiSNIUjy-JI/s1600/striped+cotton.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="195" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3HmO5J6As-4ELRgmNeG-YnModa09JBW94UVTJ6PtMmrQRtxklefvCPFSL4Fc7awUyNlsYj-8VoZIhlOT7NGs7NCsSbxCeJag-Br5O88UtnU6oTHtPniGX5OEkHxP7NwXJFPiSNIUjy-JI/s640/striped+cotton.jpg" title="Burda 7250" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I was pretty happy with these but still to scared to cut into my final fabric, so next up is a cotton-linen blend I picked up in Spotlight. It is not as drapey as the final fabric but closer than the cotton.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhshYpCA8oU0gY1LDmLbDJwNQyd8MkUAmahT-PAEkquPmR5bgy_SiifH4Y_oJPrQv7afvhsDkYtXU1VyI0KZGokcHW6X1MHHTRijJ0llIZvOjlLCg3pDXsClqbA2w-uQjit5aOpnZra2qlk/s1600/red+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhshYpCA8oU0gY1LDmLbDJwNQyd8MkUAmahT-PAEkquPmR5bgy_SiifH4Y_oJPrQv7afvhsDkYtXU1VyI0KZGokcHW6X1MHHTRijJ0llIZvOjlLCg3pDXsClqbA2w-uQjit5aOpnZra2qlk/s400/red+front.jpg" title="Burda 7250" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I love these pants, I am really happy with the pattern matching placement.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCWMf35Jl0qRiI-yghl4enmaJPysrsxyedWpqicKCTZPocYLTBJXqnKJWo3bgT5VTjvG1a_Ioz8Yb3ZA3K5r5z0NhpcDp-eZS_R5rVXrRzXNxtmfivqtd5FLPBJpvzCrSjCWI6DwM8r6ME/s1600/red.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCWMf35Jl0qRiI-yghl4enmaJPysrsxyedWpqicKCTZPocYLTBJXqnKJWo3bgT5VTjvG1a_Ioz8Yb3ZA3K5r5z0NhpcDp-eZS_R5rVXrRzXNxtmfivqtd5FLPBJpvzCrSjCWI6DwM8r6ME/s640/red.jpg" title="Burda 7250" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So I went to sleep a happy girl, dreaming of making striped linen pants. When I awoke, however, I was worried that the style was not quite right so I dug out Simplicity 1430 which I have made a few times and never loved the fabrics or the fit.<br />
<br />
I pulled out some of my ''bought it cheap to test patterns' cotton and got to work. I worked out the fit issues but cutting a size 12 all over apart from the waist band which I cut in a 14.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMNkPM0wKlZFLFrRxT7oXrQQ0uyV6YqsRX27hwDilKfRD79qVe0ptpHE6JHrklViJt-HCSqRuLXxMVV6G3wIOzswhKc7nG5nNqq_-DPXwWuIF6f1vV8pqPPO4-0AmZ9EAsLsly7fQnkpWw/s1600/blue+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMNkPM0wKlZFLFrRxT7oXrQQ0uyV6YqsRX27hwDilKfRD79qVe0ptpHE6JHrklViJt-HCSqRuLXxMVV6G3wIOzswhKc7nG5nNqq_-DPXwWuIF6f1vV8pqPPO4-0AmZ9EAsLsly7fQnkpWw/s320/blue+front.jpg" title="Simplicity 1430" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I actually really like these pants and can see myself wearing them in the winter with some oxfords and a jumper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnKZtQ8PHyEC7BcPnStug_OOyJvCuATyrW36pqFcQPMZLHY3m6AUnGv9y6nrv1ht3jfXhy3p9TVL77xb7gKTVQRZq3AJBQJuxk3r8ZIY3v8QtFEWPS7jI2o_ItJ3AndoQ_o7ok7C4yk6eH/s1600/blue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnKZtQ8PHyEC7BcPnStug_OOyJvCuATyrW36pqFcQPMZLHY3m6AUnGv9y6nrv1ht3jfXhy3p9TVL77xb7gKTVQRZq3AJBQJuxk3r8ZIY3v8QtFEWPS7jI2o_ItJ3AndoQ_o7ok7C4yk6eH/s640/blue.jpg" title="Simplicity 1430" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
So now that the pattern fits, time was time to try some similar fabric. This check fabric is again from Spotlight, a nice heavy but not-too-stiff cotton.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0Y3N2228gKZOA9MKYBcxyzOnI4diTwMTZT-RVZA537sUKMGqtiT1roX8F-y9cuOa-eUPKwsBf-UwwKq6CnQQVMaCsD1KeVMoDcK1CVTDeroK5bQUOKohrMkd4b9g5dosbtBaTWH9V5Amk/s1600/red+checkf+.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0Y3N2228gKZOA9MKYBcxyzOnI4diTwMTZT-RVZA537sUKMGqtiT1roX8F-y9cuOa-eUPKwsBf-UwwKq6CnQQVMaCsD1KeVMoDcK1CVTDeroK5bQUOKohrMkd4b9g5dosbtBaTWH9V5Amk/s320/red+checkf+.jpg" title="Simplicity 1430" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I am pretty happy with these pants too, I will wear them a few times before I decide if they get a permanent spot in my wardrobe.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuwoib2r3jBfJw3M8TSSSqgMwPMkDOFDiCSFDUQaRYbUeLgADTkXIi0h23u_VmTVeNxJ0DBsqbREiZrkRPFc8mOtI_JeA5hZIFAnN2rIMSEx743s138oI5FliCN_pI_0i9vpw0QnmJNp9E/s1600/checked.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="196" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuwoib2r3jBfJw3M8TSSSqgMwPMkDOFDiCSFDUQaRYbUeLgADTkXIi0h23u_VmTVeNxJ0DBsqbREiZrkRPFc8mOtI_JeA5hZIFAnN2rIMSEx743s138oI5FliCN_pI_0i9vpw0QnmJNp9E/s640/checked.jpg" title="Simplicity 1430" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Once again I went to sleep full of dreams of striped linen trousers. When I awoke I was back to the Burda pattern as my pant style of choice, and here are the stripy linen trouble makers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have not blogged much this year (it is hard to take photos during the process) but I sure have been sewing! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I did a quick count and got to 80ish me-made garments this year - wowsers! Some of them were gifts, others were so bad they went straight to the op shop, some of them are basics and didn't even made it to Instagram, but here are a few that did.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX772K861ZEFWO4hmbHj_tMe6sKBz6uVW1VGpiiMOV7gG-CARWa2Lz1ky3bufZxvV12_UA-2Elz3iaJqmtz6-9LYWIp_OQ-nkKjTmNta6FaEnv_78P6zUE9KFdW9d27vJKaYMApToSWGLe/s1600/alder.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX772K861ZEFWO4hmbHj_tMe6sKBz6uVW1VGpiiMOV7gG-CARWa2Lz1ky3bufZxvV12_UA-2Elz3iaJqmtz6-9LYWIp_OQ-nkKjTmNta6FaEnv_78P6zUE9KFdW9d27vJKaYMApToSWGLe/s320/alder.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I hope your May is ticking along nicely. I am still on track with my "mmmay15" pledge to wear or carry at least one me made item a day.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am really enjoying seeing all the me made items on Instagram and other blogs, I am so inspired by all the talented and stylish makers that I want to spend every free minute on the sewing machine!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have had a cold this week, sob, which added a element of snot to all of my photos, so enjoy!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Ok up first, day 11 was a super snotty day and I barely got out of bed, so thanks goodness for these jersey pants, made without a pattern.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Days 12 and 13 were less mucous-y, but still not great in the face region.<br />
<div>
A spot of embroidery on a gingham top made from an old Simplicity pattern 7773.</div>
<div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Days 14 through 18 the waves of boggies have calmed down to a gentle stream yay.</div>
<div>
I almost forgot to take day 14's photo so had to get one in quick whilst brushing my teeth, the jumper is a mystery wool and jersey made using a vintage style 3253.</div>
<div>
Day 15 is a self drafted pencil skirt with a kick pleat made from a lovely printed fabric that feels a bit like denim.</div>

Day 16 was a bad me made day, I made these lovely wool plaid pants from Simplicity 1430, but the seams pulled apart during a trip to the farmers' market and park. *sob*.</div>
<div>
Day 17 head to toe me made, well shoulder to knee. Patterned jersey dress I made a few years ago, by extended a t-shirt pattern but I can remember which one, textured sweatshirt fabric using another pattern I cannot remember, sorry.</div>
<div>
Day 18 blue gingham dress with collar and placket in a smaller gingham made using vintage Butterick 6667.</div>

I am still enjoying the challenge of dressing in me made everyday, but it is getting trickier as the weather cools off, I was super stoked that the sun was out today so I could wear my new dress without thick tights. How are you going with Me made may?</div>

<br />
Are you taking part in "Me Made May 15"? I am doing it for the first time this year, and am loving seeing all the wonderful 'me made' items on instagram each day.<br />
<br />
If you haven't heard about it before, check out Zoe blog. She started the whole thing a few years back. I have decided to try and wear at least one me made item a day.<br />
<br />
One of the reason I haven't done MMMay before is that May is a coldish month for us here in Victoria, and a lot of my me made clothing is for summer.<br />
<br />
Enter McCall's 7100, the perfect Autumnal jacket to help fill the wintry gaps in my me made wardrobe!<br />
<br />
I loved this pattern from the moment a saw it on the McCall's website. Sadly It didn't hit my local Spotlight store for another few months. <br />
<br />
By the time I got my grubby little hands on it, I had the fabric and ribbing lined up for two versions, which I banged out in less than a week!<br />
<br />
The first was a green pre quilted cotton that I picked up from and op-shop, but I think it was originally from Spotlight.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiW6612yhn3MM7PfIgNN3R6ey8sQA-IH-_3NTnV3azbGmAAgaHQvzzUDncuiHV8O-OpPa6pArWaL8DfKVv3hI5FtO_CUR4NHNdX7xMTjEuf6J-lnFJ9-fw1cUpv5ginfAvkMJGi6IioU4ee/s1600/green+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiW6612yhn3MM7PfIgNN3R6ey8sQA-IH-_3NTnV3azbGmAAgaHQvzzUDncuiHV8O-OpPa6pArWaL8DfKVv3hI5FtO_CUR4NHNdX7xMTjEuf6J-lnFJ9-fw1cUpv5ginfAvkMJGi6IioU4ee/s1600/green+front.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I made a Medium without any alterations.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOHTZat_EMVfmnOyk6fZkUQ_cz8bnSbxp4Bla11rTZ2UnHxlRTa7_E3UI0yhnPl1c26zhMpY3oRSehcTuXqvTg7CQbC6qJrJ6u8G6vmb2hGTTiygfDJiQrG6OdFr3ghu_Qv0bTrO0cHbGp/s1600/green+unzip.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOHTZat_EMVfmnOyk6fZkUQ_cz8bnSbxp4Bla11rTZ2UnHxlRTa7_E3UI0yhnPl1c26zhMpY3oRSehcTuXqvTg7CQbC6qJrJ6u8G6vmb2hGTTiygfDJiQrG6OdFr3ghu_Qv0bTrO0cHbGp/s1600/green+unzip.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
My love then turned in to an obsession; the fit and the style of the jacket was perfect, so I decided it deserved to be lined. The pattern does not include a lining, but it wasn't to hard to work out. I cut the front, sleeves and back pieces out of the lining fabric, adding a 2 inch vent in the centre back for movement. I made it up the same as the shell, machine sewed it on at the neck and base band then hand stitched the sleeves to the cuff and the front opening in behind the facing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR6GUxcwpghxD4L9lr3Bs953U4qTESOk50riBkDgfbPHh6tSO9ZPWKgWLhxFJaRzY-Q5uo9eR13VMd8i9wfJQbVXl733ZQQPSqJ1rJDS2BPfIb6NaBErb4v04KfnDAGZX98GaCp_8FyU6z/s1600/green+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR6GUxcwpghxD4L9lr3Bs953U4qTESOk50riBkDgfbPHh6tSO9ZPWKgWLhxFJaRzY-Q5uo9eR13VMd8i9wfJQbVXl733ZQQPSqJ1rJDS2BPfIb6NaBErb4v04KfnDAGZX98GaCp_8FyU6z/s1600/green+side.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This jacket is pretty straight forward to construct, but the instructions are a little bit tricky to follow. It looks to me like they have forgotten to colour them in. They have the key indicating what the right side of the fabric and the wrong side of the fabric look like, but the pictures don't seem to use it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjczb64NaIivW0Vj41DEbutta_pV7L5irNtcR3r454egp4gwbY3sWXFQq2VCrgvrvDTUc9ALT947zRGd0_4vUuanUMfY3xmzQyfCEyxjjT7QYMchyphenhyphenFypIFbvcj6OH58iaWN4QRT63SnAHLJ/s1600/green+back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjczb64NaIivW0Vj41DEbutta_pV7L5irNtcR3r454egp4gwbY3sWXFQq2VCrgvrvDTUc9ALT947zRGd0_4vUuanUMfY3xmzQyfCEyxjjT7QYMchyphenhyphenFypIFbvcj6OH58iaWN4QRT63SnAHLJ/s1600/green+back.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /><br /> I also couldn't work out the method for inserting the pocket lining, in the end I just made it up and I am happy with the results.<br />
<br />
Version two I made out of this amazing black neoprene from Darn Cheap Fabrics, in Melbourne. It has a pattern cut in to it which is not very clear in the photos so you will have to take my word on that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgafGX4wPWMBjWycq5uP9GYqQY5dMFiUthumIUU1bBx4kyjX7qmWEAH5j7Ad8Z2DcMKaUZSHR17mF6UHU0f7iqqEUSEPy6yIGLAqnXkvGcAWVBCxwKOgHlq7aLLKrGIE_iYxRkGHGl2pXyN/s1600/black+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgafGX4wPWMBjWycq5uP9GYqQY5dMFiUthumIUU1bBx4kyjX7qmWEAH5j7Ad8Z2DcMKaUZSHR17mF6UHU0f7iqqEUSEPy6yIGLAqnXkvGcAWVBCxwKOgHlq7aLLKrGIE_iYxRkGHGl2pXyN/s1600/black+front.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This version of the jacket is probably the weakest, the stretch of the fabric made the neckline go wobbly even though I stayed stitched it, it also doesn't sit as nicely as the others. I will still wear it for sure but I will go with stiffer/thicker fabrics in the feature.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZzMmtmod-3LfnGFuebioaNiOdU5o2GU6WJsfwrc2LJtgTdOWXAprElpbKNH5v09gp-vcz4eQ_H6Yqx_OvwvP-fxz-YtgJqFT19-ortNBQT0_jrymp7YhV3SM7QEJtMDprnwRATnLvTpSl/s1600/black+side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZzMmtmod-3LfnGFuebioaNiOdU5o2GU6WJsfwrc2LJtgTdOWXAprElpbKNH5v09gp-vcz4eQ_H6Yqx_OvwvP-fxz-YtgJqFT19-ortNBQT0_jrymp7YhV3SM7QEJtMDprnwRATnLvTpSl/s1600/black+side.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
For my third and final - for now - I lengthened the pattern by 9 inches to make it in to a coat. I decided to omit the bottom band and just hem it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm4R-s-d9vOjjxfsY3No5accP48JcVUO1K8OsS6h03ZJmhMJ5mE0zgP0IcFhHoQJNQzGbSat9yiqj-eV3Ip8qVSxLYFuoQhjWWw2q7MWbwShEa5y6iYkkkBDjK0oL6jjiChKKzVwhtTHoT/s1600/grey+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm4R-s-d9vOjjxfsY3No5accP48JcVUO1K8OsS6h03ZJmhMJ5mE0zgP0IcFhHoQJNQzGbSat9yiqj-eV3Ip8qVSxLYFuoQhjWWw2q7MWbwShEa5y6iYkkkBDjK0oL6jjiChKKzVwhtTHoT/s1600/grey+front.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I lined this one too, and I put bias binding on the edge of the front facing to avoid a bulky hem.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Autumn is here in the southern hemisphere; it has kicked in quickly. Last week I was in a thin dress with the air-con on full blast and now, as I type this, I have long sleeves and slippers. <br />
<br />
I have been busy sewing recently and have had some real vintage pattern wins, which I will photograph soon - I hope.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Today I want to tell you about a dress I made last year that was inspired by Obus.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiIfmggED3tQvc8MvvAZDyjKZtceYcvwWSkZhS1Vf2bEd46CLPHBxF80E5ngTmYapmmlNPqVM6LQehVyxVsHrxd2PAdyBEwGwSx_J0O-zOnoQwCPZbjC6N_g2pl35IKPWf3BgT1PkW4hY1/s1600/top.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiIfmggED3tQvc8MvvAZDyjKZtceYcvwWSkZhS1Vf2bEd46CLPHBxF80E5ngTmYapmmlNPqVM6LQehVyxVsHrxd2PAdyBEwGwSx_J0O-zOnoQwCPZbjC6N_g2pl35IKPWf3BgT1PkW4hY1/s1600/top.jpg" height="640" width="476" /></a></div>
<br />
I had spotted this top on a Pinterest board and liked the the shape and colour blocking options.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiozSDuy6Bl_Y7J7utVNa0OncqlV8Dq3vo5pC4Ch7cksnV0wDc76lGIfy0ofgkMsa-kSUU9zIk_LiMmrhZR3PZEJ4_6uvy-7HhUkcGryMjR8VHI4B4jBcbUp-TNEn2gRYRsXb8RiCAePsfj/s1600/fe7399900c5902b116745c58a2b5359d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiozSDuy6Bl_Y7J7utVNa0OncqlV8Dq3vo5pC4Ch7cksnV0wDc76lGIfy0ofgkMsa-kSUU9zIk_LiMmrhZR3PZEJ4_6uvy-7HhUkcGryMjR8VHI4B4jBcbUp-TNEn2gRYRsXb8RiCAePsfj/s1600/fe7399900c5902b116745c58a2b5359d.jpg" height="640" width="235" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I saved this from Pinterest but the link had gone so I don't know where it can from, sorry.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I made my version using some soft shot cotton from the quilters' section of Spotlight.<br />
<br />
I used my tried and tested New look 6983 because the idea called for a simple silhouette.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_oL_fgdMFF8AhpdQy16lUxZVWoqVAPCJlzi95_3I1jNY8BPYv2k0LDLxt-HXk5nV_ErLnBMeLm03mbfCQAwsWaT0pPkY7ixzZnQ5Z68z0trv8TKSsXh32xxeHHqN7bcHFFa0TCn_B9MKD/s1600/front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_oL_fgdMFF8AhpdQy16lUxZVWoqVAPCJlzi95_3I1jNY8BPYv2k0LDLxt-HXk5nV_ErLnBMeLm03mbfCQAwsWaT0pPkY7ixzZnQ5Z68z0trv8TKSsXh32xxeHHqN7bcHFFa0TCn_B9MKD/s1600/front.jpg" height="640" width="476" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I drew out a hexagon, thank you year 8 maths, and then set to work on the fabric.<br />
<br />
I decided to sew the navy and the light blue together first rather than trying to match up the line whilst sewing in a 6 sided shape. Then I cut out a hexagon from lining it up with the neckline and the seam. I didn't quite make the seam match up, but hey, my arms mostly cover that?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinapZ0JTF8z08338FSJWOwcdmJUMhvyQfumr8k3R8J9lf0v8bgcqEEU9b9PB_75Fi-3yiJgtxMgOscF-wWC50k6E2YQ6N3y4WMEWEmpvH3FSAD2ISzakmTRfujMBm3HuAScmhedZLFbsCW/s1600/miss+match.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinapZ0JTF8z08338FSJWOwcdmJUMhvyQfumr8k3R8J9lf0v8bgcqEEU9b9PB_75Fi-3yiJgtxMgOscF-wWC50k6E2YQ6N3y4WMEWEmpvH3FSAD2ISzakmTRfujMBm3HuAScmhedZLFbsCW/s1600/miss+match.jpg" height="640" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It was pretty fiddly and there is a bit of puckering, I think I would be able to get it in better now that I have done it once, so I might have to make another version.<br />
<br />
Have you been inspired by any ready to wear recently?<br />
<br />
<br />Chrinnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05033467030030218480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-989755750666656835.post-28115571515728009342015-01-28T01:44:00.001-08:002015-01-28T01:44:10.360-08:00A whole bunch of stuff that I made - Tate Top and Simplicity 1430Hello.<br />
<br />
I have been on a bit of a Tate Top binge recently. The Tate Top is a free pattern from the wonderful <a href="http://workroomsocial.com/" target="_blank">Workroom social</a>; you can get it <a href="http://workroomsocial.com/blog/tate-top-first-look-free-sewing-pattern/" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
Ok, so the beginning of this Tate Top madness was this top. I made it out of some cotton that had been sitting in my stash for a little while.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikF5KweUuoqDPSIxoEOownP8yNCRS_VL2ID9CxPmOrDYboaJ_moR-OHA6reZpXDBpQ07C3Ms44DtP62FgWbiStrwnrxx4JPyvHlIV1P_qwz6GbJ1ARTGB8JvzKwL7pEfhO_dSBguXWi6ku/s1600/s.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikF5KweUuoqDPSIxoEOownP8yNCRS_VL2ID9CxPmOrDYboaJ_moR-OHA6reZpXDBpQ07C3Ms44DtP62FgWbiStrwnrxx4JPyvHlIV1P_qwz6GbJ1ARTGB8JvzKwL7pEfhO_dSBguXWi6ku/s1600/s.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I cut out a size 10 in the longer tunic length.<br />
<br />
I decided to omit the back zip. I left the top open and added a button and hoop.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK4mHa7XkfeR_JqEl9TqjiaG807_h2vAKb9UQ1cPy8Xz8iwCEmnQ9dNnLrjNchEfKF3IaLsi1BQZvFyZtCC3RfcvYuiUeLhZIDus_M6Xu2dh6I51Yg7ZBLo0P3zYRQp8KbvW6dulinxd_M/s1600/d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgK4mHa7XkfeR_JqEl9TqjiaG807_h2vAKb9UQ1cPy8Xz8iwCEmnQ9dNnLrjNchEfKF3IaLsi1BQZvFyZtCC3RfcvYuiUeLhZIDus_M6Xu2dh6I51Yg7ZBLo0P3zYRQp8KbvW6dulinxd_M/s1600/d.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I have lined all of my Tate Top variations with stretch mesh; I read about lining things with stretch mesh on a blog a few years ago, but I can not remember who's it was. If you know, please tell me so that I can credit them and gush with thanks because it is a great tip - you do not have to worry about darts etc.<br />
<br />
I ended up taking 1 1/2 inches off the shoulder seam to make the armpits higher. I'm not a big fan of the visible bra, still not quite right, but 'better than it was.<br />
<br />
The shorts are Simplicity 1430. I made them with some upholstery fabric that I picked up in an op-shop. They are a little tight, I think I might need to go up a size for the next pair. Not to happy with the pulling on the zip.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht69VkyH3LJQtRQ6Mxw7iOrzbdm6bSW9k5R97g1PG-eIKKC0XCyczLSezwx3RSEmkxsYdC-yNEdapgHxE0o2lO1omk7QUFhI2KrHU_7Janh6_7xnBEwpTaXPYHZT5A5XicqbXyYUBUCawO/s1600/z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEht69VkyH3LJQtRQ6Mxw7iOrzbdm6bSW9k5R97g1PG-eIKKC0XCyczLSezwx3RSEmkxsYdC-yNEdapgHxE0o2lO1omk7QUFhI2KrHU_7Janh6_7xnBEwpTaXPYHZT5A5XicqbXyYUBUCawO/s1600/z.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Ok, on to the bit I am most excited about!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi61_P89tRLKKSZkXaO9LYC0yN9PGy_EZvUHslfRADVRMhJZQLj3kcmGnc90mvKPRHNJJ0G2Sh62tcMh0laEwpBthnN4KaxDZvZgh-yoJ7MoW0NPSWjdv2qNtIRwPZsgc3r0ICeloBm5Fe-/s1600/q.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi61_P89tRLKKSZkXaO9LYC0yN9PGy_EZvUHslfRADVRMhJZQLj3kcmGnc90mvKPRHNJJ0G2Sh62tcMh0laEwpBthnN4KaxDZvZgh-yoJ7MoW0NPSWjdv2qNtIRwPZsgc3r0ICeloBm5Fe-/s1600/q.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The dresses.<br />
<br />
I used the Tate Top pattern in the crop length. To make the skirt I cut a rectangle 1 1/2 times the width of the bottom of the top, I cut the top of the skirt to mirror the curved hem of the top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWSAeQmSFx4VipKceWOq-awieKsnYqkEm3TNeRbOtAur8VoMFyr1AAVtTtTWXWbahnCcBUUAoUQPy0TivCBSTHsHGJndTmX5A6rn0tMC4jLWBtSu98ESAjxxzfFaItAUbRrTQ_uqkJ9FLi/s1600/w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWSAeQmSFx4VipKceWOq-awieKsnYqkEm3TNeRbOtAur8VoMFyr1AAVtTtTWXWbahnCcBUUAoUQPy0TivCBSTHsHGJndTmX5A6rn0tMC4jLWBtSu98ESAjxxzfFaItAUbRrTQ_uqkJ9FLi/s1600/w.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I gathered the skirt to fit the top using three rows of long stitches.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUyghg023rthtrq8ZFGYS0_bnpQ938f9etjvSUCyregrmgMCtKcW4FcdxQtxnKM68Il8cEKszCzgYFYSGTlVAAQhGbrQ_q2xTeKsnn_KBiu_iVzcPJ4_bZtmgG1raX0lcTnzEqIrXxotwe/s1600/e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUyghg023rthtrq8ZFGYS0_bnpQ938f9etjvSUCyregrmgMCtKcW4FcdxQtxnKM68Il8cEKszCzgYFYSGTlVAAQhGbrQ_q2xTeKsnn_KBiu_iVzcPJ4_bZtmgG1raX0lcTnzEqIrXxotwe/s1600/e.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
The fabric is a cotton from my stash that I picked up in an op-shop a few months ago.<br />
<br />
I love this dress. I was so happy with how this test run turned out that I jumped straight in to the final (for now) version.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipUeXXKL3MJHjTVs1CC8fLqXMsosUurYkozouq8g0fMYlFezQR2eufyldsu3ZQR4m1UfC6sKHAE9pl02ZcdkYNm1TaH9HQHT0sNIi8xf36N3ranoM8vSMTg2TbqyPjq6Ih53nGqgWvBHta/s1600/r.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipUeXXKL3MJHjTVs1CC8fLqXMsosUurYkozouq8g0fMYlFezQR2eufyldsu3ZQR4m1UfC6sKHAE9pl02ZcdkYNm1TaH9HQHT0sNIi8xf36N3ranoM8vSMTg2TbqyPjq6Ih53nGqgWvBHta/s1600/r.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I got this fabric in the Spotlight clearance a few weeks ago.<br />
<br />
This dress was inspired by all the wonderful dresses by Gorman. I have had my eyes open for a suitably cheeky fabric to make my own and this sea gull fabric nailed it.<br />
<br />

<br />
I hope that your Christmases and New Year's were a delight.<br />
<br />
We headed to NZ for Christmas with the family. It was so nice to be back in NZ seeing the family and walking along the beautiful beaches, plus I got a bunch of awesome fabrics.<br />
<br />
We were back in Aus for New Year's, lots of friends and a fair amount of wine, throw in a piano accordion and a handful of Scots and you have yourself a top night out!<br />
<br />
It hasn't all been holidays and parties though I have had a couple of sewing wins which I will blog as soon as I take some photos.<br />
<br />
Today I want to show you a wee vintage dress that I made up a few months ago. The pattern Style 1116 was printed in 1975 and features some fun tucks from the shoulders.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidmHzm4nupvdHvK-CElI9KDCohTivblypck7Jd6h-9SLLDMhCTJB1Jyuj99kRJJjNb8eLl0CZHNQ06RyGnuPvtY04euhb7Zc3dUngo_skTpdQIB675nH99Vf8nKRT5o03TxqBPcgQuq5zB/s1600/patternt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidmHzm4nupvdHvK-CElI9KDCohTivblypck7Jd6h-9SLLDMhCTJB1Jyuj99kRJJjNb8eLl0CZHNQ06RyGnuPvtY04euhb7Zc3dUngo_skTpdQIB675nH99Vf8nKRT5o03TxqBPcgQuq5zB/s1600/patternt.jpg" height="640" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
I made my version up in some upholstery weight cotton, with a herring bone stripe.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii35HvVqrpqF76CcQDZhyphenhyphen0WXcTt-hNzfTMtAjRpMM6am9i9f1LXBJMj76SawjyVPAkDy4z50HiA7j0t5sb_znD3aXYwqz2Z36DYA0gp7bqeEkRgunDQWGiZnXEya7jKNYYljqSmVF29vLJ/s1600/pocket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii35HvVqrpqF76CcQDZhyphenhyphen0WXcTt-hNzfTMtAjRpMM6am9i9f1LXBJMj76SawjyVPAkDy4z50HiA7j0t5sb_znD3aXYwqz2Z36DYA0gp7bqeEkRgunDQWGiZnXEya7jKNYYljqSmVF29vLJ/s1600/pocket.jpg" height="640" width="478" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
It is a bit of a wearable muslin; the fabric is nice but it was on sale so I thought I would throw it at this pattern and hope for the best.<br />
<br />
I love the tucks and the pockets and over all I am pretty happy with the finished dress.<br />

<br />
Next time I will use a lighter weight fabric as this is a little heavy along the top.<br />
<br />
I had to add a panel around the bottom. I really wanted the stripes to run from top to bottom but couldn't quite get it to fit on the fabric.<br />

I think I will make it again soon as it is a nice, loose, easy wearing dress for the summer. Check out this action shot, totally summer-tastic! <br />

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;">I decided to have a go at view A which has a full skirt with pleats at the waist. the pleats were a bit of a slippery nightmare in this polyester but I got there in the end.</span></span><br />

I picked up a few prints from this range; they have a nice drape and some great designs. I think it is $16.99 a meter but I got it when it was 40% off, WIN.</span></span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;">I cut out a 10 like my previous version, <a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=989755750666656835#editor/target=post;postID=370165290541943834;onPublishedMenu=posts;onClosedMenu=posts;postNum=6;src=postname" target="_blank">you can see it here</a>. I made the waist band little longer than the pattern, about 3 inches, so that I would have a bit to play with when attempting to match the checks.</span></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;">I made a valiant attempt at matching the print, I spent about an hour moving pattern pieces around whilst pinning. I am not delighted with the matching but there are a few places where it meets up.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-size: small;">I am pretty chuffed with the dress, I think I might shorten in a tiny bit, but that will have to wait, I was to excited with the finished dress and I had to wear it straight away so now it is sat in my washing basket, ho hum.</span></span><br />

<br />
I have had a mammoth morning of photo taking in my back yard so I can finally put some of my recent makes on here - yay.<br />
<br />
Anyone following along with<a href="http://www.bimbleandpimble.com/" target="_blank"> Bimple and Pimble sewvember</a> might have seen that I have been inspired by the wonderful pattern matching of <a href="http://www.aceandjig.com/" target="_blank">Ace and Jig.</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgST17ADBU7FvKl3M0OQNY0qZzQHtRkjNOgWGjFbapTh3ZGQpJAdnVpkPARkS_u855o0eerdUxAMdg2O_YHfHxcHCM7FMZe7Fwpr_eio8tH7F6l7FbjvF1TiXgJd6pMA-PZyqnBAd_xqTa1/s1600/image1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgST17ADBU7FvKl3M0OQNY0qZzQHtRkjNOgWGjFbapTh3ZGQpJAdnVpkPARkS_u855o0eerdUxAMdg2O_YHfHxcHCM7FMZe7Fwpr_eio8tH7F6l7FbjvF1TiXgJd6pMA-PZyqnBAd_xqTa1/s1600/image1.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
They are a Brooklyn based company that put together some of the most wonderful patterns.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately my clothing budget has thus far prevented me from indulging in any of their items (I don't like to spend more than $50 on an item I cannot try on) so I though I would have a go at matching prints with them in mind.<br />
<br />
I have had this idea stored away at the back of my little mind for some time, when in Spotlight the other day I saw one of their angles/shop girls unwrapping some wonderful lawn prints. It feels amazing and drapes really well so I snapped some up for a dress.<br />
<br />
I already had the red stripe on hand so I got to it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I used New Look 6983 as a base and cut the bodice so I could work in the other print.<br />

<br />
I bought this wonderful rayon that is printed with a gingham-looking pattern. I think, and Google seems to agree, that gingham is actually yarn dyed and cotton, so we'll go for 'gingham-looking' and agree to never talk about it again. Anyhoo, I love it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I decided to sew and old New Look pattern (6394) that I picked up in an op-shop a few months ago.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkVL6HLMOL6jhG7ETELAm331R6v49hZ2JVPdK4IC7mOyq8dzuxhslU3CkX5LTm5rHpIPCl06u1K8hwLry7mAPmUv63kBIu9raF0VUHKDGmrOsXP8HnYNhGmOt2Ar5EjXXzj2GFstQx56pJ/s1600/am988_MED.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkVL6HLMOL6jhG7ETELAm331R6v49hZ2JVPdK4IC7mOyq8dzuxhslU3CkX5LTm5rHpIPCl06u1K8hwLry7mAPmUv63kBIu9raF0VUHKDGmrOsXP8HnYNhGmOt2Ar5EjXXzj2GFstQx56pJ/s1600/am988_MED.jpg" height="400" width="286" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is the second time I have made up this pattern. I love the gathers and the rounded top section. (The first one was a swing-and-a-miss as the fabric was too crisp). <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB2b3yuKo5xdKIJEzH4_z6pCSKBH4yqlBJMoqPpEjyszwrOq2gw78vHrOuZSFsXodQ71ILxzgJmlkxSTwKACWTxUh-QnjaIITwYeok7PPzOeM4q-GcCe-sbUPZfVWeHWg-AvtGRKyzmReA/s1600/side.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB2b3yuKo5xdKIJEzH4_z6pCSKBH4yqlBJMoqPpEjyszwrOq2gw78vHrOuZSFsXodQ71ILxzgJmlkxSTwKACWTxUh-QnjaIITwYeok7PPzOeM4q-GcCe-sbUPZfVWeHWg-AvtGRKyzmReA/s1600/side.jpg" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>

<br />
<br />
I cut out a size 10, I took the neck line up by an inch. I also took out some of the gathers, as my last version was rather voluminous.<br />

(Vogue 1247, newlook 6983)Hello hello.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This weekend was a busy one. We had a houseful of ladies for my chum Bek's baby shower, a delicious dinner party, church and Dr Who, phew.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In between all the excitement I was able to get a little sewing done, yay.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I had been intrigued by the matching two-pieces that have been popping up a lot recently, and when I bought Vogue 1247, the skirt with its awesome front pockets, sealed the deal.<br />
<br />
</div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I lengthened the skirt by about 3 inches because some fellow sewers warned that the skirt is on the short side.</div>
<div>

I didn't bind the seams on the pockets, as the pattern suggested, because I am a a little bit lazy and my sewing time was short.</div>

I am pretty chuffed with the final items. I am still not sure if the two piece is for me - a dress just makes too much sense in Mildura's hot hot summers. But I do like that I can raise my arms without flashing my undies.<br />

The wonderfully wriggly Juliet and the beautiful Hannah (such great names).<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They are both beautiful babies and their mums are such lovely ladies that I decided to make some mini clothes to welcome them to the world.</div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNsNYb5JcWMnRgETNsGkPaNKLotNQRuCWa5iFx-yxHstCouXQy9-oGoo89L6-J6ny5YM38vjsP9KplVpGVc01F_n1ttxNT3yFoQWYdQyowr8okTkVKrEyd3JAAGvYx5z2tQrZ7UBMUW78j/s1600/duck.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNsNYb5JcWMnRgETNsGkPaNKLotNQRuCWa5iFx-yxHstCouXQy9-oGoo89L6-J6ny5YM38vjsP9KplVpGVc01F_n1ttxNT3yFoQWYdQyowr8okTkVKrEyd3JAAGvYx5z2tQrZ7UBMUW78j/s1600/duck.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
I also made a stuffed toy duck for each of them. A floral for wee Hannah and a denim one for Juliet. I gave
the denim duck away before getting a photo but it looks like this one,
but blue.<br />
<br />
I have no idea how big babies' clothes need to be, so I bought a few items from a local op-shop to use as a kind of block. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUTmQWA-KI_PJO1tVI0kVwvvlbI04wLD2lWoKlmqqPYDajl5Q3yHc-rpA06LpvasPoAdLnoCmhJ16It61mpbNoF1_HjCkCNKpqdsm8JoY4zOrS7MmOAsHH6HsyA3AJIqlIXloZndfkg-ny/s1600/duck+dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUTmQWA-KI_PJO1tVI0kVwvvlbI04wLD2lWoKlmqqPYDajl5Q3yHc-rpA06LpvasPoAdLnoCmhJ16It61mpbNoF1_HjCkCNKpqdsm8JoY4zOrS7MmOAsHH6HsyA3AJIqlIXloZndfkg-ny/s1600/duck+dress.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I figured the wiggling little poop machines can never have too many leggings, so I made a few pairs for each of them.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpEOY94H-sZGLBv5ND0R1d2dCXtxGkcATSrwEVrXgsGe5CyXYRtV4AnX9LSsIv16Uzi0z_Er8t41TdqVs1AqHfjxBV-y5d802T_ZHlXxlamvFTAbDIitnUwMwHnSzyZ5PP2TroJEVxLXuW/s1600/leggings2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpEOY94H-sZGLBv5ND0R1d2dCXtxGkcATSrwEVrXgsGe5CyXYRtV4AnX9LSsIv16Uzi0z_Er8t41TdqVs1AqHfjxBV-y5d802T_ZHlXxlamvFTAbDIitnUwMwHnSzyZ5PP2TroJEVxLXuW/s1600/leggings2.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkWHdpviaY7ZKkvHI8NAHfcZiLBQ8-Fn1ibdOWQfBsOwvA4N-UlH3ByXHpeVSp_JAd9eXyg18S5mOsvG2I8muFiywrfdSt4vU2vwn7k1NYw1i3z-w2thVmEiJQtsFHGW8rzkNI5FNa_wX4/s1600/leggings+legs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkWHdpviaY7ZKkvHI8NAHfcZiLBQ8-Fn1ibdOWQfBsOwvA4N-UlH3ByXHpeVSp_JAd9eXyg18S5mOsvG2I8muFiywrfdSt4vU2vwn7k1NYw1i3z-w2thVmEiJQtsFHGW8rzkNI5FNa_wX4/s1600/leggings+legs.jpg" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And finally I whipped up a couple of matching dresses to wear with the leggings.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKyI1n_Rfo1YIdD1qRT1VXbytZXnb_CoQK9r-iEjGyXwiRuUM0SnzRiFRxc_L7uKvI3SjTzkzljGUB906fModgyOT6cPPSIl-DxvYLaGnS5xtrsqFleYYzNTjY1qvrjif09-W_fRJYOLNG/s1600/dresses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKyI1n_Rfo1YIdD1qRT1VXbytZXnb_CoQK9r-iEjGyXwiRuUM0SnzRiFRxc_L7uKvI3SjTzkzljGUB906fModgyOT6cPPSIl-DxvYLaGnS5xtrsqFleYYzNTjY1qvrjif09-W_fRJYOLNG/s1600/dresses.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
I hope it all fits.</div>

We have caught up with some friends, got a few chores done plus I started and completed three, that's right three sewing projects. All of which I will share with you as the week progresses and I get some photos sorted.<br>
<br>
The first of my three projects is inspired by<a href="http://www.paunnet.com/" target="_blank"> Paunnet's</a> wonderful <a href="http://blog-en.deer-and-doe.fr/126-tutorial-a-very-easy-plantain-dress/" target="_blank">tutorial for Deer and Doe</a>.<br>
<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYIGa8lOh9rhkcgM3_E7mNxgPMTdmStaubghvG9ZZun6qldaK1dJzaEznh4dij2TCIa489Wj4s0kUCUFdtAtaraJp9pSVCVYnZVmPE_osSg3Mds_cEEfHOYJvBtP0vOstnfVsGwODBRtW_/s1600/front2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYIGa8lOh9rhkcgM3_E7mNxgPMTdmStaubghvG9ZZun6qldaK1dJzaEznh4dij2TCIa489Wj4s0kUCUFdtAtaraJp9pSVCVYnZVmPE_osSg3Mds_cEEfHOYJvBtP0vOstnfVsGwODBRtW_/s1600/front2.jpg" height="640" width="478"></a></div>
<br>
I made a few alterations, I wanted the skirt to sit on my waist so I lengthened the top.<br>
<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpae-zBifoAtRVyiO7ntBZb4mtwAkJ9jVR-MyCiTCuF_OH7ts3XFt86yExHZ6MvsTAY8bZkIpyfJaAvuiOeQc8U9jPzkTE3Tbe83XJVSR_q2g-ZH0mrXUfyMVjKx8WrFnfSPSPq4ZTcwOE/s1600/front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpae-zBifoAtRVyiO7ntBZb4mtwAkJ9jVR-MyCiTCuF_OH7ts3XFt86yExHZ6MvsTAY8bZkIpyfJaAvuiOeQc8U9jPzkTE3Tbe83XJVSR_q2g-ZH0mrXUfyMVjKx8WrFnfSPSPq4ZTcwOE/s1600/front.jpg" height="400" width="298"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgakYC1u05xM4Y8zaPHtn_jG_PUWASik_qY2J2f2WOJwZl7vSJ_4tYf3F5e2qymQGyB4v9NkP3WNpP6L-R1zWeMWN9M7-OcQLB0JmztFlT4qA7dxETuM9ziVyjLYy9HaLbIH1xLisV9mA5p/s1600/back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgakYC1u05xM4Y8zaPHtn_jG_PUWASik_qY2J2f2WOJwZl7vSJ_4tYf3F5e2qymQGyB4v9NkP3WNpP6L-R1zWeMWN9M7-OcQLB0JmztFlT4qA7dxETuM9ziVyjLYy9HaLbIH1xLisV9mA5p/s1600/back.jpg" height="400" width="298"></a></div>
<br>
I also underlined the bodice, partly because the fabric was a little thin, but mostly because I could not work out what colour to finish the neck in and didn't fancy fighting with the stripes.<br>
<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq5qv_jzOaFpr_zfj4Q1ezTvBpyyF97ZnfqMpFZtc3muPvkejF8I5dBQvA_m2gFSdCZoHbK2XXY1kAAzEj6_EppGl0osvFqNkronTBfrA7iCgbKaTarNfZ4DMquE5gd0JKhyphenhyphenx_vR9AJI9k/s1600/neck.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjq5qv_jzOaFpr_zfj4Q1ezTvBpyyF97ZnfqMpFZtc3muPvkejF8I5dBQvA_m2gFSdCZoHbK2XXY1kAAzEj6_EppGl0osvFqNkronTBfrA7iCgbKaTarNfZ4DMquE5gd0JKhyphenhyphenx_vR9AJI9k/s1600/neck.jpg" height="480" width="640"></a></div>
<br>
<br>
I had a lot of fun matching the stripes and getting them to run where I wanted them to. <br>
<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjkHcjFFKxEMdxwUsy8FxoEA1FoqjBUelNoc2M-es8nNm2q9jvr_zlMxI6kGFxswa9ZqFijGRTBv2A3crPBOZhEHttPG4LEEfLR1u5XOFmggLRIbOFH8ogcPOe7VJ0R86anxjRYFv_2jjw/s1600/close+up1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjkHcjFFKxEMdxwUsy8FxoEA1FoqjBUelNoc2M-es8nNm2q9jvr_zlMxI6kGFxswa9ZqFijGRTBv2A3crPBOZhEHttPG4LEEfLR1u5XOFmggLRIbOFH8ogcPOe7VJ0R86anxjRYFv_2jjw/s1600/close+up1.jpg" height="640" width="478"></a></div>
<br>
<br>
Unfortunately I don't like this dress, I can't quite put my finger on what I don't like. I love the stripes so it might just be the style on me I love the ones I've seen on line; I tried it with a belt but I am still not convinced.<br>
<br>
I will wear it once and see how we go.Chrinnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05033467030030218480noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-989755750666656835.post-40954636384778036092014-10-12T02:57:00.004-07:002014-10-14T05:05:03.261-07:00Scrumptious ScallopsHello Hello Hello.<br>
<br>
I made this super simple scallop skirt on Saturday (I love alliteration). It was so easy and I love the outcome.<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlroDqa3W5iF30hfsAyC1TI8_xre61FJR6ogPDIHFMS3-xEXt6ewpfPjBH9tD7pJEMAjze4P97wojXbz0RQ9QY8ehAQVExN8u4CSLd1iX1FlbtqfoTf1F1E1x4AZtagA3xRRR5qoHYrpdb/s1600/smart+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlroDqa3W5iF30hfsAyC1TI8_xre61FJR6ogPDIHFMS3-xEXt6ewpfPjBH9tD7pJEMAjze4P97wojXbz0RQ9QY8ehAQVExN8u4CSLd1iX1FlbtqfoTf1F1E1x4AZtagA3xRRR5qoHYrpdb/s1600/smart+front.jpg" height="400" width="298"></a></div>
<br>
I can dress it up with a nice top and some heels<br>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdapnu1A0jFN4QbiR8j9gEx2GTb11RUgtiqyVZe7S6FY9ieQtIuX3yRsjy3mHd-WlaFQNFK-CioFac9yi9EZSVkHspfQdFJl9OhAlRG0R2OvP-cpAx23gWU02XCAeQnDLkSprz7urSA4aP/s1600/smart+back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdapnu1A0jFN4QbiR8j9gEx2GTb11RUgtiqyVZe7S6FY9ieQtIuX3yRsjy3mHd-WlaFQNFK-CioFac9yi9EZSVkHspfQdFJl9OhAlRG0R2OvP-cpAx23gWU02XCAeQnDLkSprz7urSA4aP/s1600/smart+back.jpg" height="400" width="298"></a></div>
<br>
Or go casual with my spotty denim shirt and some flats.<br>
<br>

<br>
I made it out of some green scuba knit that I picked up in the Spotlight sale a few weeks ago.<br>

I haven't hemmed the skirt because scuba knit doesn't fray (I hope, don't look to carefully at the photo above), but I did a line of stitching for a bit of detail.<br>

I have made six (I am a little shocked by that number but I have just counted them, eek) in the last couple of months with varying degrees of success, some you will get to see and some I will have to burn.<br />
<br />
My obsession began when I fell into a denim shirt dress rabbit hole on Pintrerest.<br />
<br />
Next, I turned to the blogs. I love the the <a href="http://shop.grainlinestudio.com/products/alder-shirtdress" target="_blank">Alder Shirt dress from Grainline</a>. <a href="http://gingermakes.com/tag/alder-shirtdress/" target="_blank">Ginger at Ginger Makes</a> made two beautiful versions, I love the bold print. <a href="http://www.ohshedabbles.com/2014/08/a-nautical-alder/" target="_blank">C from Oh she dabbles</a> made an awesome nautical version, but I can't be doing with all the printing and sellotaping.<br />
<br />
So when I found <a href="http://www.sewdixielou.com/2013/08/the-sun-studios-mccalls-shirt-dress.html" target="_blank">Clare from Sew Dixie Lou's</a> and <a href="https://nx44.wordpress.com/tag/mc-calls-6696/" target="_blank">Naomi from Bon Courage's</a> fabulous versions of McCalls 6696 shirt dress pattern, I headed straight to Spotlight.<br />
<br />

<br />
I decided to start of with a fun beach print rayon I picked up from an op-shop for an absolute steal - I think it was $2.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So many markings - took me an hour to transfer them all.</td></tr>

<br />
I cut out a size 10 - I can never work out what size I am supposed to be so I normally cut out a 10 and make it up from there. I had to add a few inches to the waist band.<br />

<br />
The woof and the warp. More commonly seen the other way around (I was pipped to the Blogger name post). The woof and the warp are the horizontal and vertical treads that make up a woven textile, which is perfect because I love fabric.<br />
<br />
I have recently found myself with a bit of spare time and what better way to fill this time than with sewing, sewing, fabric shopping and, umm, sewing.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Four dresses in one weekend. </td></tr>

<br />
I have always been a sewer; helping mum with dance costumes when I was a kid (well helping is probably a bit of a stretch), taking things in and up through my teens and uni years. I have been avidly sewing for about 5 years, it keeps me sane and makes me happy.<br />
<br />

I love the feeling of pulling off a neat top stitch, nailing a zip or pressing the perfect pleat. Plus having outfits that no one else has is gives me a buzz.<br />

This blog is going to be focused on sewing. I love looking at other bloggers' projects, reading their tips and modifications, so I though I would jump on board and join in.<br />
